Dugena

The brand Dugena has its roots in the foundation of “Deutsche Uhrmacher-Genossenschaft Alpina” (German Watchmaker Association Alpina) located at Eisenach in 1917. At the height of World War I, the association was founded as a necessary economical response to the wartime trade embargo but also as a symbol of hope for a new era. This association of watch makers successfully distributed selected quality watches from Germany until the 1930’s. Its headquarters moved to Berlin in 1927.

After World War II and the following division of Germany in 1945, distribution and sales of watches from the Soviet sector of Berlin to the west of Germany was almost impossible. Therefore, Dugena eG moved its headquarters to Darmstadt in the south of Hesse in 1948 where Willi Tempel led the company’s fortunes. In times of economic boom, the company grew to become one of the most important companies in West Germany. Dugena watches represented a modern life style and traditional quality. In the 60’s and 70’s the company successfully overcame the quartz revolution and was featured by more than 2000 retailers in Germany.

In 1993, Hans Jörg Seeberger became SEO when his Holding EganaGoldpfeil took over. The holding company sold the brand in 2009 to the newly founded “Nova Tempora Uhren und Schmuck GmbH”.

Nowadays, the company has focus on entry-level models in the low price segment, as well as on its fine Dugena Premium selection which contains high quality quartz watches and an exquisite collection of mechanical watches. Special highlights are limited editions with historical movements. Those are manufactured at “Zeitmesstechnik GmbH” in Meisenheim – a subsidiary of Nova Tempora. The individual components such as cases, dials, hands and bracelets are produced exclusively in Germany. Therefore, each of these watches represents the seal of quality “Made in Germany”.
